“My focus is on outerwear; designs rooted in functional and traditional garments, utility-wear and sportswear. I am always inspired by climate, environment, people, and lifestyle. As an Irish designer, I embrace our cultural infatuation with the ever changing weather. For AW18 I’ve worked with coated textiles inspired by the colours and textures of Irish landscapes enhanced after heavy rain or snow fall. Garments reference elements of traditional Irish country-wear as well as Arctic dress. I approach design with a story or character in mind and then begin collecting combinations of textiles that fit into that imagined world. My collections are non-trend based with many trans-seasonal garments designed to last and be worn time and time again.”
Four Threads was created by Alanagh Clegg during her graduate year in The National College of Art and Design, Dublin. Inspired by a family business of hand crafting, her work explores the traditions of these techniques that have been passed down through generations. Furthering her studies at The Grafton Academy of Tailoring in Dublin, her work is carefully developed into a considered collection of garments, accessories, and thoughtfully designed objects to transcend each season. The approach to producing a Four Threads item draws from the four aims of their ethos: inspired, handmade, quality, and conscious.
JILL & GILL
“Jill & Gill was established in April 2016. The business has grown organically, vibrantly, and always with the approach that the work and brand is seen as collectible and engaging. We are a forward-thinking and multi-discipline studio based in Dublin, but we are also a brand that is based on exclusivity, craftsmanship and the heart of everything we do is based on a synergy of both our practices - illustration and print. Our apparel launched last October, and features a collection of garments that represent aspirational women through illustration, print, and style. We believe that being fashion conscious should be part of our brand’s ethos and story. We spend time sourcing our garments so that our customers can invest in our apparel’s journey not just our designs.”
“My designs bridge the gap between the traditional and the modern, combining luxury Irish wools with cutting-edge knit techniques. Each bespoke garment is crafted individually by hand to ensure a meticulous attention to detail and high-end finish. My garments embody inventive construction as I constantly experiment with novel techniques. A key design inspiration for me is the incursion of the industrial into the natural environment. Through subtly coloured, natural fibers contrasted with urban shots of neon, I investigate the clash between the industrial and the native Irish landscape - fusing innovation with the luxury of natural materials to create edgy contemporary, yet warm and comfortable designs.”
